TV Talk: Jason Alexander Joins Jenny Craig, Law & Order Eyes Los Angeles

-Seinfeld‘s Jason Alexander has signed up to be the new face of Jenny Craig. I’m not sure I want to see a bathing suit commercial in his future.
-Oscar nominee Laura Linney will star in The Big C, a new series for Showtime. In case your mind went elsewhere, that “C” stands for “cancer.”
-Former Nightline anchor Ted Koppel could be returning to his old network. ABC is reportedly hoping he’ll replace GMA‘s George Stephanopoulos on This Week.
-Is there another Law & Order franchise on the horizon? NBC is currently entertaining a Los Angeles-based version of the show.
-The numbers may be lousy, but someone’s still watching Heroes. The NBC series was the most-pirated program last year. Lost was second while Prison Break came in third.

Friday Ratings: Big Bump for Betty
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Animation, Comedy, Drama, Kids, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, Talk Shows, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Medium, Ratings,
Okay, so CBS was in repeats—but I think we’d all accept gifts when we can. A lack of competition helped Friday’s broadcast of Ugly Betty reach its best numbers of the season. Thankfully, the program will be given a new opportunity when it starts airing on Wednesdays in January.
8pm
- Law & Order (8.8 million, 1.7/6) had a long-awaited win in its hour.
- Yes, Virginia (1.3/5) entertained 5.3 million.
- Supernanny (1.3/5) scolded 4.6 million.
- The Big Bang Theory* (1.4/5) contributed 4.6 million to the evening.
- The first hour of Dollhouse (1.0/3) raised 2.7 million.
- Smallville* (0.5/1) averaged 1.4 million over two hours.

Friday Ratings: ABC Has Animated Evening
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Animation, Drama, Kids, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, Specials, Talk Shows, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, House, Medium, Ratings,
Would ABC be smart to air cartoons every Friday night? The weekend’s broadcast of Shrek the Third helped give the network a rare tie in the 18-49s. CBS, though, was still a solo winner with the viewers.
8pm
- Ghost Whisperer (8.4 million, 2.0/7 in 18-49) raised another 400,000.
- Law & Order (7.5 million, 1.5/5) remained steady.
- Shrek the Third (1.9/6) attracted 6.3 million to ABC.
- House* (3.3 million, 1.0/4) fell by 200,000.
- Smallville (2.5 million, 1.1/4) also lost 200,000.

Friday Ratings: Business as Usual for CBS
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, Talk Shows, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, America’s Next Top Model, House, Medium, Ratings,
An evening without a Rihanna-esque interview is just your typical boring
Friday night. CBS’ lineup easily held off its contenders to win both the viewers and the demos.
8pm
- Ghost Whisperer (8 million, 2.0/7 in 18-48) was on par with last week.
- Law & Order (7.5 million, 1.7/6) dipped by a 1/2 milion.
- Supernanny (5 million, 1.4/5) raised another 200,000.
- House* (3.5 million, 1.1/4) was off by 400,000.
- Smallville (2.7 million, 1.2/4) lost 100,000.

Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:
Chuck: Terminator 2‘s Robert Patrick has been recruited for a spot on the NBC series. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s robotic nemesis will step in as Col. Keller, someone from John Casey’s past. Patrick will arrive (fully clothed?) in the middle of the season.

Friday Ratings: Rihanna Performs for ABC
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, Talk Shows, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, America’s Next Top Model, House, Medium, Ratings,
Whether she’s singing on stage or sitting down for an interview, Rihanna knows how to draw an audience. Her emotional 20/20 interview with Diane Sawyer scored the best demos of the night.
8pm
- Law & Order (8 million, 1.8/6 in 18-49) picked up 1 million.
- Ghost Whisperer (7.9 million, 1.8/6) fell by 800,000.
- Supernanny (4.8 million, 1.3/4) remained steady.
- House* (3.9 million, 1.2/4) was up slightly.
- Smallville (2.8 million, 1.2/4) added on 200,000.

This Week on TV (11/2-11/8)

(Make sure to check out TV Envy’s Programming Schedule.)
MONDAY (11/2)
- Heroes (NBC, 8pm): “Hiro has another chance to save Charlie (Glee‘s Jayma Mays) when he travels three years into the past, where he also encounters Samuel.” NBC has now resorted to reversing time to steal FOX’s thunder.
- Accidentally on Purpose (CBS, 8:30pm): “Billie and Zack have their first big fight after Zack, hoping to surprise Billie, installs a low-flow toilet without consulting her first.” She didn’t appreciate having to flush twice after her #2’s.
- The Big Bang Theory (CBS, 9:30pm): “Sheldon tries to teach Leonard the fundamentals of football.” Despite his wealth of knowledge, Sheldon still couldn’t explain the cheese-on-heads ritual.

Friday Ratings: Smallville Shows Strength
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, Talk Shows, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, America’s Next Top Model, House, Medium, Ratings,
Every once in a while a move to Fridays isn’t such a bad thing. Although some shows have been known to fade away, CW’s Smallville actually hit a season high with the 18-49s this weekend. That performance, of course, didn’t keep CBS from winning in both the viewers and the demos.
8pm
- Ghost Whisperer (8.3 million, 2.0/7 in 18-49) was down by 200,000.
- Law & Order (7 million, 1.4/5) also fell by 200,000.
- Supernanny (4.8 million, 1.3/4) added on 100,000.
- A 2-hour House* repeat (3.8 million, 1.2/4) did better than last week’s programming.
- Smallville (2.6 million, 1.2/4) picked up 100,000.

Friday Ratings: Dollhouse in Need of a Break
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, Talk Shows, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Medium, Ratings,
Depending on how you look at it, Dollhouse’s mini-break couldn’t come at a better or worse time right now. The show’s final episode before the November hiatus pulled in its lowest demos to date.
8pm
- Ghost Whisperer (8.5 million, 2.1/7 in 18-49) picked up 300,000.
- Law & Order (7.2 million, 1.5/5) was down 400,000.
- Approximately 4.7 million watched the return of Supernanny (1.1/4).
- Smallville (2.5 million, 1.1/4) only lost 100,000.
- Brothers (0.8/3) pulled in 2.4 million; ‘Til Death (0.7/2) settled for 2 million.
